PRINTING TO A COMPUTER INSTEAD OF A PRINTER

By gabriel ·
I HAVE SIX ALARM RECEIVERS SENDING DATA TO SIX PRINTERS, HOW CAN I SEND THAT DATA TO SIX DIFFERENT FILES INTO A COMPUTER SO THAT LATER ON I CAN RETRIEVE THE INFO I NEED AND THIS WAY SAVE PAPER?

If the spooling of paper through the platens of these wasteful printers, is how this 'alarm system' indicates that something untoward has occurred - how in **** is a growing computer log file going to alert anyone???

The printers are just for further evidence. The alarms are beeing handled by a computer which automatically brings the alarm to the operator.

Too many unknowns, practically impossible to answer.

To avoid wasting other peoples' time that would otherwise be put poward helping others, you need to spend a lot more time to be a lot more specific if you want any serious answer.

I am shooting in the dark here:
This is one of hundreds of possible answer. If your alarm receivers are capable of communicating using SNMP, then you can setup a host with SNMP trap enabled to receive the traps from the alarm receivers. Then you can print all the traps to various file formats depending on which OS you use, which software you use, which printer driver you installed. If you're using XP or newer, then you can print to MS Office Document Image Writer, or MS XPS Documnet Writer which comes with the OS. Another option is to print to PDF, which requires Adobe Acrobat ($) or find a free PDF writer.

Well I suppose you could change the Printer that they go to

To Print to File instead of a Specific Printer.

But it's a bit hard to answer without a lot more information here.
