Problem Re-installing Windows with a SATA HD

By alanpeter ·
I am working on a friends computer, a Gateway Viper-C, Model TA6. The operating system, (Windows XP Tablet Edition), was wiped out by a virus. I was able to boot into safe mode a couple of times, so I used a program called Portable Driver Magician Lite, and backed up all his drivers. Then not to long after that, I was not able to get it to boot in any mode period. So I tried to reinstall his system, and just after all the drivers load, Windows asks if I want setup Windows, press Enter. So I did that, and then I get the following error?

Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer.

Make sure any hard disk drives are powered and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer supplied diagnostic or setup program.

Setup cannot continue. To quit setup press F3.

Also to be noted, this computer does not have a floppy drive, and that is all that Windows looks for to add any additional drivers. I tried to use N-lite to slipstream the driver (disk.inf) into the new CD, but that did not work. Am I barking up the wrong tree here, or do I need the firmware driver?

Or maybe there is something else I am missing.

The Hard Drive info is?

Hard Drive: Seagate Momentus 5400.3, 80GB
HDD Master ID: 19891890, SATA ST980811AS-(S1)

You will need the "Drivers disk"...

Have you got a disk call "drivers disk"?
If so then do this:

1). Load on your system disk (Windows tablet)
2). When you see "Load third party drivers press F6", then press F6 on your keyboard.
3). Load/insert your disk called "Drivers disk" and then press the "Enter" key.
Now Windows should read off of this disk to extract the SATA drivers that you are after.

Hope all works out for you.

Go here for you drivers disk:

You are attempting to slipstream the wrong thing with nLite

by OH Smeg In reply to Problem Re-installing Win ...

You need to include the SATA Driver whatever that is to the Install CD not the Driver Disc.

Go here and enter the Tablet Serial Number in the space provided

http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/dlcenter.asp?Tab=My

Then get the SATA Driver for this system and use that to Slipstream the Drivers tot he XP Install Disc with nLite.

It also wouldn't hurt to enter the BIOS and check that the SATA Controller is set to something like Native not RAID.
