Problems Installing PCI Sound Card

By hamant5 ·
I recently bought an 'Audio Excel' PCI Sound card with 6 Channels P/n 9410490020 Code:Av51X Series V.2-E. Upon placing the hardware into motherboard and booting up PC, new hardware was 'detected' and the relevant Drivers were installed into the Computer. However upon restart of PC, as soon as I click my 'profile' icon and 'loading your personal settings appears', just at the point one would hear the 'welcome' audio clip, the PC suddenly freezes - no mouse, no keyboard. I cut the power and remove sound card upon which the computer works perfectly. Does anyone have any suggestions how I can get this sound card to function properly?

You need to double check that the onboard sound
has been disabled, and eliminate that driver.
Some motherboards don't have a way to disable
the on board sound, making the install of external sound cards impossible, and will cause
lockups jast as you described.

What O/S are you using? I would check the sound cards web site to see if there is a trouble shooting Faq and see if there are newer drivers you can download. Some sound cards may install themselfs but the install may have old drivers or install the wrong drivers. Did it come with an CD did you try using it to install the card?

I would say that you need to reinstall all you're drives or even reinstall your OS.

Without knowing more I would say at the very least you'll have to remove previous Sound Drivers and if you have On Board Sound disable it as well before you can get this sound card to work.

Check the sound byte

It is possible that the sound byte that it plays at startup is corrupted. try replacing the sound byte with a good copy.
