The mobo would probably support the 233 but only run it as a 200.
If you have a mobo with only jumpers to set the cpu/bus ratio and speed you need to set the speed to 66 and the ratio to 3,5 to get it to run at 233MHz. With a ratio of 3 you will only get 200MHz.
It might work as a 233 if there is a bios upgrade available for the mobo which supports 3.5x cpu/bus ratio.
Check out your mobo manufacturers homepage for bios upgrade.
Hope this helps.

First, is the 200MHz CPU a standard Pentium, or an MMX?

Many motherboards could not handle the dual voltage required by the MMX CPUs.

To the best of my recolection, the 233MHz CPU was only offered in the MMX version.

If you install a MMX CPU in a motherboard that cannot provide the correct voltages, the CPU will burn up in a matter of days.

Further, the 16% CPU speed increase will likely provide no more than an 8% increase in performance.

233MHz MMX CPUs go for around $30.
With carefull shopping, you can jump up to a 1GHz or faster system for around $130.
AMD Duron CPU + new CPU fan
Socket A SDRAM motherboard
PC100 or PC133 SDRAM
New power supply.
Assuming your present case is an ATX style.

This is shopping the usedand refurbished market.

Another option is replace the motherboard with one that will support it. When the old mb I had stopped aceessing the keyboard, I picked up another one for $10 at a local computer shop. It was the only place I could find an AT mb locally where the refurbished machines and recycled the cases into newer/faster machines. Good Luck
PS, I'ld still upgrade instead if thats an option, the 233 is just not fast enough unless all you're planning to use it for is word processing.
