Profile with IE6 and IE7

By dwojtecki ·
Hi, if I have IE6 on one computer and IE7 on another computer and I have a roaming profile what happens? Which one is transfered in the profile, or is the one on the machine the default.

Have you tested it yourself to see what happens? It's easy to look to see which browser is activated when logged into each machine.

If this is a homework assignment, you'll need to do your own research. And, while you're at it, let's take your question one step further. If you have WinXP SP1 on one computer and WinXP SP2 on a second computer and you use a roaming profile, which is transfered in the profile, or is the one on the machine the default?

I have installed XP with SP1 on a SBS 2003 network and the server updated the XP machine to SP2. I don't know if server 2000 would do the samething but on the profile I found that with server 2000 the favorites don't transfer and I was wondering if it is due to the different IE6 nd IE7. This is a doctors profile I am working with and I don't want to mess it up for him.

The browser doesn't matter.

The favorites folder should be located in the same place on the server no matter which browser is installed on the local computer. BUT, the browser settings themselves might do it. If the profile had the browser option turned on to "Enable personalized favorites menu", that individual's favorites are stored in c:\documents and settings\<username>\favorites folder on the local computer instead of on the server. Both IE6 and IE7 have this option.

Thanks, I'll check the settings and let you know what I find. I won't be able to get to the machines for more than a week but I'll let you know.

Hi, I checked with the doctor that this profile points to and found the settings not enabled, the doctor deleted some favorites on one machine and he informed me that they were still on another machine with the same profile at a different office. Any other suggestions? He logged off other machine.
