Programs menu double click

By Matthew Joyes ·
On our corporate network each general user has a standard Start>Programs menu. The netadmin therefore controls what applications are available.

One problem we have with this policy is users just double click on a folder in Start>Programs which open up an explorer window for that location.

We have restricted the right click, but is there any way to stop the users opening up a folder by double clicking.

You could perhaps make it a little more difficult by making the folder "hidden". This won't stop anyone who really know their way around Windows, of course... unless someone else knows a registry setting to prevent viewing hidden items.

Maybe you could mention whether you're worried about accidental modifications or people deliberately trying to circumvent your policy.

Thanks for responding; the reason for the policy is because of the huge amount of confidential client data on the hetwork(we are a private health care company).

We found that this method helps limit what users have access to certain programs. Some of the advanced users though, as I said, just double click on tye Starr>Progranms folders, and can naviagte a so-thought "restricted" drive.

At a friends network, the doubleclicking is restricted. I wondered if there was a way to do this.
