ps/2 mouse

hi, while working in windows suddenly the computer hangs... so i restarted it ... then it hangs [while moving the mouse], so i thought that their might be a viruse or a hacking file doing this ... so i deleted windows and installed it again it doesn't read ps/2 mouse .. i tried another one it also failed to read.. so i installed a serial one ... it works.... got any idea why this ? is it a malefunction in the mother board ???

Check your IRQ settings to see if there's any conflicts.
Also run diagnostic software to check your hardware.

it is not uncommon for the solder connections on the MB's ps/2 ports to work loose. this is relatively simple to determine after removing the MB from the case. If doing this, make sure that you follow ESD precautions.

I have looked like the heroof the day many times just by applying a wee bit of solder to the ps/2 ports on the motherboard when no other solution seemed to work.

P.S. If you are not skilled with a soldering iron, then please get assistance from someone who is before attemptinig a repair of this nature. sloppy solder work can and will cause more problems.
