PS2 and USB Keyboard and Mouse dead'!!?

By falconaire27 ·
i have a problem on a motherboard...
ps/2 and usb keyboards and mouse don't work
as in, you can't even enter the bios accessing the f1, del, etc.. button...
i tried everything in other threads and posts but it seemed nothing worked.
a while ago i was able to access windows via LAN but since i cleared the CMOS settings (as suggested by other threads), i'm already stucked up at "press F1" to set CMOS time and settings...

i don't know if ports are dead or gone what...
LAN port, VGA port and PSU ports are fine

my last resort question here is:
"If i would install a PCI USB card, will it work automatically or does it need to be configured inside the windows system?"

i posted the first problem anyway so that if others have the same problem and solved it... then you can also kindly send your response here..

any help is much appreciated... :)

i'm having headache already.... :))

Well it would have helped if you mentioned the Make & Model of the M'Board

by OH Smeg In reply to PS2 and USB Keyboard and ...

But generally speaking USB doesn't work till the OS is loaded. PS2 works from the word go on the majority of M'Boards but some will have USB Work from the Power On as well though these generally speaking do not have PS2 sockets on the M'Board.

Have you tested the PS2 Keyboard to make sure that it actually works?

Also is it plugged into the Purple PS2 socket on the M'Board. The Green one is for the Mouse.

If the PS2 Socket is dead there has been something really nasty happen to the M'Board and I would be extremely surprised if it was just the PS2 & USB Sockets not working.

As for fitting a USB PCI Card generally speaking you need to install USB Drivers in Windows to have them work and mostly they Do Not work till the OS is loaded if that is of any help.

Thanks for the response... :)

I have tried
*2pairs of PS2 mice and kb
*1pair of USB mouse and kb
*checked the ports and the mouse and kb if plugged-in properly
*tried remove-reconnect several times
*removed the CMOS battery
*have the CMOS jumpers reset
*read the mobo manual
*tried switching the PS2/USB jumpers
*removed and reconnected some peripherals
*had my head crashed :))

both working when i tested in another pc
and of course i knew the purple and the green
i guess the motherboard's ports were doomed
btw the mobo's model is P17G/1333(V1.0A) by PCCHIPS

and i may also say with this statement that i have no other solution but to replace the motherboard. :)

thanks for the help..

Reponse To Answer

Now if you had of said PC Chips originally..........

I would have said immediately to replace the M'Board. Those Brand M'Boards are not very good and break more often than not.

Not something that I would ever recommend to anyone.
