Is there a limit to the number of hard drives that can belong to an array, or is this a limitation of the controller?

Maximum set by controller(s). IDE would mean 2 per controller max and SCSI 7 per controller max.

to correct myself you can have up to 24 drives, thats if your running a windows system.as dos can't recognize more than 24 partitions one for each letter,two are reserved.
