What happens if you loose your raid 5 configuration?

Your question is quite vague. By losing the raid 5 config, do you mean you have lost 1 of the drives to a hardware failure? Do you mean you have lost all drives to a hardware failure? Do you mean you have lost the actualy configuration within theRaid Card BIOS, or within the OS?

If you have only lost 1 drive, you can replace the faulty drive and reconstruct your parity set.

If you have another scenario or this does not help, please elaborate further!

I've had several instances where we've had a disk in a RAID 5 array 'die'... and you can reconstruct this after replacing the disk and depending on your RAID controller either a) rebuilding on-line or b) rebuilding by going in to th eRAID tool on the next boot.

However losing your configuration sounds worse.... Sounds fatal.. Have you lost the battery backup to your NVRAM on your RAID controller ?? If so you're probably really screwed.
