Re-installing Printer

By dwightp ·
Good morning:

Every time we start a Windows XP SP2 system, it wants to re-install the printer attached to this computer. Printer is a Samsung ML-4500. Have deleted and re-installed printer but problem still there.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Dwight

Is it perhaps a printer with an IR port ? What does the install screen tell you ?

Try removing the printer driver from your printer list and then go to file, server properties, click on the drivers tab and remove the printer driver. Then go to your hardware list and remove the lpt port. Reboot your computer and let it find the lpt port again and reinstall itself. Then sut down your computer plug the printer back in, and it should install the printer driver. This is safe without editing the registry. Tom

Its a standard parallel printer. When Windows restarts or computer is turned on, once it reaches the desktop screen, it says Windows has detected new hardware and is installing the drivers for it. User has to cancel the New Hardware Wizzard, other wise it tries installing the printer again.

Thanks

I have had this problem with the Samsung ML-4500. You need to install the printer with its own installation disc rather than allowing XP to install the device.
