    Locked

    by kcrozier1 ·

I have a WD 500 gb hard drive that I cant access. I have tried to connect it as a slave (after removing it from the enclosure) with no success. Have a couple recovery softwares but still cant get to it. Recoverme (?) doesn’t see it and the other one tells me I have to have the administration rights to it. I was amd am the administrator . Where do i go from here?I I need to get some files off the disk asap.

It wont mount the drive or you can’t access the files?

If it is telling you access denied try this link to take ownership of the files–> http://technet.microsoft .com/en-us/library/cc753659.aspx

Piriform’s Recuva is a utility that has saved me many headaches on drives that the partition has been borked.

Might try booting your computer with a small Linux distribution,

such as Slax, while the drive is also connected. Slax boots to root by default,
you have full access to the system with Slax. Other Linux distributions may work
as well, such as Tiny Core, Puppy…but I’ve had excellent results with Slax.
I even use it on my little Acer netbook as an optional operating system.
Once you’ve booted Slax, just use Konqueror to open the troublesome disk,
and copy the files you want.
