Recover from a "SYS A: C:" from DOS flop

By jmoses ·
Did a "SYS A: C:" from a DOS 6.22 floppy to a working NT-workstation. Now it only boots to DOS.
How do I get it to boot to NT? I do not need multi-boot. Just want to get back to where I was.

You need an 'Emergency Repair'
If you do not have the three setup disks get the original CD and Winnt /ox or winnt32 /ox.
If you have a bootable CD, you could try placing the CD and when setup appears press R for Repair. A menu with four X appear, remove three X with Enter (or space bar) and leave the X in 'Inspect Boot Sector'.
Alternatively you could reinstall NT Workstation in the same place that it was before, it will not take long.

perfect - worked. Took maybe 5 mins. No CD was required.

boot from the nt setup diskettes, when prompted select "r" to repair the install. select the repair option to inspect the boot sector. this will fix it and allow nt to boot. of course, you do have an erd, just in case - right? :)

You may just want to try doing an fdisk /mbr. NT doesn't need anything special on the boot sector (the system just looks for a series of files on the HD) so just deleting the DOS mbr could fix your problem without the headaches the recovery process can sometimes cause.
