recovering outlook express XP email

By jkey122857 ·
My Windows XP computer recently crashed so I decided to do a dual install by placing Win 2k the hard drive along with my damaged XP install. I just needed to recover my files and my Outlook Express email. I was successful as far as recovering the files, but my Outlook Express email did not come over. I understand that even if I had used another copy of XP rather than Win 2K, I would still have the same problem.
Please tell me how to go about recovering my Outlook Express email.

The Outlook Express store is located in a hidden folder, C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{ABC057B9-B69E-43C8-A783-FFA12AB7F7A2}\Microsoft. You will have to unhide the folder first. Open Outlook Express and choose File|Import and Export. Import Internet Mail. It will be from an OE store directory. Browse to the old folder and start the import. Check the file size and file dates to verify you are getting the right one.

Just a side note:

The alphanumeric string in the address path is different for each user and computer.

C:\Documents and Settings\{User Name}\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{String}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

You may need to log in as administrator, or at least have administrator rights in order to get to the user folders of another identity.

Also being XP you may have to take ownership of the files as well. To do this follow the directions in the following link.
