Registration ***'y rollers in HP LJ 5Si

By doug.price ·
The left most roller in the registration assembly (HP pt no.: RG5-1833-040CN) has swollen slightly affection the distance of page feed in one of our HP LJ 5Si Mopier printers. Has anyone else experienced this problem? The assembly has been replaced once less than a year ago for the same reason. Can it be prevented from happening and how?

Swollen? The only thing that I can think of that would cause a roller to swell would be the absorbsion of liquid. Is the printer in a particularly humid area? What kind of media is being used?

Have you personally observed the swolling, or is this what the printer technician is telling you? The roller you're refering to is simply a guide, and isn't a very likely part to wear-out durring the life of the printer.

But the Transfer Roller (RF5-1412-000CN) itself does wear. It normally would be replaced along with the Feed/Separation Rollers, and the Fuser as part of what's called a "Maintenance Kit" (C3971-69002). This kit is recommended every 350,000 pages under _normal_ conditions.

Are you sure that the other registration roller has not worn down? The only time I've seen one 'swell' is when the rubber portion of the roller has stretched and popped out of it's groove on the plastic portion of the roller.

Uneven wearing or swelling of registration rollers is more than likely caused by uneven pressure. I would check the springs and any other mechanism that provides the registration roller pressure from end to end.
