Reinstalling Windows 98

What is the proper procedure for reinstalling
Windows 98 to repair the problem of, missing
"Shut down" menu item, from Windows "Start"
menu?

Before you reinstall try this. When the machine is starting up, hit F8 to get to the Start up menu. Choose the DOS prompt option. Once the machine is at the C prompt, type SCANREG /RESTORE and pick one of the files with a date before the menu itemdisappeared.

hmm,
somehow the registry setting has been changed to not to show the shutdown button anymore.
The easiest way is to solve the problem is to install tweakui of Microsoft. http://www.microsoft.com/ntworkstation/downloads/powertoys/networking/nttweakui.asp

If it fails or dont provide the option reinstall windows in the existing folder, you wont loose any information.

(this only works if you are not in a network, since a network policy will overide the settings of your pc.)

I had previously moved Tweak from my cd to my control panel, and couldn't find a solution. I have no idea how to move Win 98 from my cd to my C:> Windows file (w/o great risk to what's
left on my C drive). Guess it's time to lug it into a shop. Thank you very much
