Remote Access to Desktop through Internet

    Locked

    by slwade50 ·

I need to access my home computer (ADSL connection) from my laptop using a Clearwire connection. I’m assuming I’ll need Wake up on LAN settings on the desktop unit and I’ll be using a laptop with onboard NIC. WIN XP2 on both machines. What additional software am I going to need? Additional security measures? I use Zone Alarm, AVG Anti-Virus, and SpyBot on both machines.

Setup the Remote Desktop on your home PC <http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/mobility/getstarted/remoteintro.mspx> set your router to forward port 3389 to the home computer, configure the Zone Alarm to let it in (if you can) and use no-ip.com so you can use DNS to find your computer over the internet.

Thanks for the info. I got a recommendation from another source and am trying LogMeIn Free which is working out ok. The only thing I haven’t done is work out wake on LAN on the home machine which I’ll probably do next week.
        Thanks again.
