Remote access to protected network share

By jsh61 ·
I am using Windows 95(B)& a successful VPN connection and am attempting to access a password protected network share on my office server (that I have been granted access to). I am able to successfully map to a any other shares that are accessible toeveryone in our company, and am able to "MAP" to the protected share, but when I click on the share through Windows Explorer I get the error message "Drive not accessible... network path was not found".

I have the proper IP and server name entryin my hosts file, and am able to view my office email successfully, but cannot access this protected directory.

Is there some way to work around this problem, or gain access to the share?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

First off, can you access this from within the building under your login on the network?

IF not this sounds like a permissions thing to me,judging from what you can do " you have no problem with email or folders within the everyone group" you areconnecting, so chances are you are part of a group(s) that have access to a lot of things. But in one of those groups there is a Deny checkbox marked for the folder you are trying to access. Sometimes the easiest way to touble shoot this is by removing you from the groups one by one and testing your ability to access that folder. Once this is done the network admin can check the rights or permissions in that group and make changes accordingly. If your company recently updated to W2000 servers,it applies these diferently than NT4 does.
If the network admin assigns rights and permisions to people rather than adding to groups, this will take a while to straighten out!!!
