Remote access to Win 2000 registry

By Bancal ·
When I was tried to access to remote PC's registry using regedit.exe, I got a message that remote registry service must be ran on both computers. What is remote registry service and how can I get this program?

Thanks in advance.

The Remote Registry Service is a built-in part of Windows2000 and it is probably already installed but just not running.

To find out, go to Control Panel, then Administrative Tools, then Services and look for the line that says Remote Registry Service. Just to the right of that, you'll see whether it is currently running. If not, start it and if you want it to always run, change the start-up method to Automatic.

If it's not installed, you'll need to use Add/Remove Windows Components to install it.
