If you have XP professional it should already be installed. You just need to go to the System Icon in the control panel, or you can right click on My Computer on the desktop and then go to properties. From there click the Remote tab at the top. At the bottom at Remote Desktop check the box. This turns on the feature for your machine.

All XP machines also have the Remote Desptop Client so you can connect to remote machines. It's under Start, Programs, Accessories, Communications, Remote Desktop Connections. You can use that little program to connect to remote machines. If you have an older machine with 98 or something you can download a remote desktop client program from Microsoft so you can connect to your machine.

I hope thishelps!

That sounds like what I need to know, but perhaps I should have added that I need to know how to work the remote desktop in XP. If you can tell me that it would help very much.

If someone connects to your machine you must enable "Allow users to connect remotely to this computer" Then add a user name and password for the user that will be able to connect.
To connect to other PC's all you have to do in XP PRO is navigate Accessories => Communications => Remote Desktop Connection. Here you can either browse for the Computer or use an IP address.

I will award an extra 1000 points to anyone who gives me SPECIFIC instructions on how to run the remote desktop feature with Windows XP Pro. Once the instructions have been tested, the points are awarded.

Right-click on My Computer and choose properties. Go to the Remote tab of the system properties window that opens. Check the box for Allow users to connect remotely to this computer. Click OK.

In order to remotely control the computer, the user must have open access to port 3389 through any firewall directly to the IP address of the workstation being controlled. You can use either the Windows 2000 Terminal Services Client, or you can download the free Remote Desktop Client from here (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/rdclientdl.asp). On a Windows XP machine, you will already have the Remote Desktop client in Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Communication -> Remote Desktop Connection.

Open the Remote Desktop Client and type in the IP address or FQDN (fully qualified domain name) of the computer to which you wish to connect.

I use Remote Desktop all the time. If you have other questions, please let me know.
