Terminal Services Console

by deanglass In reply to remote desktop

Try this:

Start >> Run, then type mstsc -console

This will give you a remote screen of the live session on whatever box. A small batch file can be created with that as a single line of text. I use this to connect to several servers at once.

Hope that was what you were after.

XP is single user

by Nimmo In reply to Terminal Services Console

XP is a single user machine so you are only allowed one connection per machine. Therefore every user logs onto the console so using the /console flag is not needed.

Sanesh_sg is there any specific reason you want multiple connections to a XP machine? Depending on the number of connections you want you may as well install a terminal server.

Locked?

by Bizzo In reply to remote

If by locked you mean that when you connect it has the window saying that the computer is locked and in use and can only be unlocked by user xxxx, or an administrator, then that is correct.

As it's been said before, XP can only have 1 user connected, so you connect to the console by default. If the machine already has someone logged into it, then it will be locked for remote connections. If previous users do not log off the console (they only disconnect) then this is the message you get.

Cannot "Share"

by Bizzo In reply to remote

You cannot share the desktop using remote desktop, as that would involve 2 connections, XP allows only 1.

If a student is logged in to the machine, then you cannot connect.

If you want to monitor the desktop they try using something like netmeeting.
