Remove FDDI network

Hello all, I have inherited a FDDI network at my new employer utilizing 3Com 10/100 switches. The thing I like is that it is a straight fiber run to all workstations, no change over to Ethernet anywhere. What I do not like is that I am capped or bottlenecked at 10/100 with this FDDI. My question is to remove this FDDI bottleneck, is it as simple as getting different fiber switches and changing over the fiber connectors at the switch to sc or lc? Each workstation is already at SC, but at the switches it is a FDDI connector. I would prefer to keep the fiber as it is already there. What do you guys think?
