Removed CD tray

By JDCompass1 ·
My chair leg purposely hit my CD-R tray while it was extended. Entire tray is now out. We _can_ re-insert the tray, but the drive does not respond. How do we replace the tray? TIA.

Disassembly

by timwalsh In reply to Removed CD tray

You will probably have to remove the CD player form your computer and disassemble it to ensure the try was re-inserted properly. You may have been able to re-insert the tray, but unless it properly re-engaged the tray opening gears, it won't work.It is also entirely possible you damaged the drive beyond repair.

In the mean time, you should severly discipline your chair to make sure it doesn't conduct further acts of vandalism.

BTW, it may be worth your while to just go ahead and buy anew CD-ROM drive instead of spending time trying to fix this one.
