Removing Data off a Hard Disk

By bruce ·
Hi

I'm responsible for a number of desktops and notebooks for my company and all store around 50,000 confidential records. I need an absolutely fool-proof software package that can completely destroy data on the hard disks - BUT not destroy the data still on the disk.

In other words I delete some files and need software to remove that deleted software from the disk to a level fit for the NSA. I don't want to format the disk to remove it.

Price is a factor so if there are a variety of excellent packages it would help me to recommend a few.

Not that I need it but I want this data removed so not even the nsa could recover it. My job depends on it.

Thanks
B

Take a look at this article that discusses your topic and provides a list of providers at the end for such software.

A quick followup...I've not used No Trace from Communication Technologies, but an acquaintance swears by it as the most effective tool.

Here's a link -- I think it costs around $50US.

DOS itself has several options to do this "IF" the Data - files - are not burned in and once executed are not recoverable, I do not know the exact commands at the present but I do know that what has to happen is for the designated files to be moved to a designated area of the drive to preserve them and then you reformat only those sectors of the drive that are not in the protected area. It is not simple to do at first and you can make it into several Macros after you do it one step at a time afew times. To my knowledge it is the only way that it is do-able that is permanent and the required by regulation method of all the militatrys in the USA.
