Removing WinMessenger 4.7.3000

By ArthurP ·
Hiya,
Does anyone know how to remove Windows Messenger 4.7.3000 - or the location of the download files ...

Windows XPSP2 was installed from a downloaded file, and automatically upgraded WinMsgr to 4.7.3000 .. I now need to remove this application and re-install WinMsgr4.7.2009 which handles VoIP(UDP)

Grateful for any help you are able to offer ... I'm bouncing my head off the brick wall here

To uninstall it:

1. Click on the Start button and select Run.
2. Type:

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

in the text box and click OK. You will see a progress bar appear shortly as it deletes its files and it will then ask you to reboot. After the reboot the program will be gone.

Uninstalling Messenger on computers that have Service Pack 1 installed

Open Control Panel from the Start menu.
Choose Add or Remove Programs.
Select Add/Remove Windows Components.
Click to remove the checkmark next to "Windows Messenger".
Click the Next button.
Click the Finish button.
Reboot
Note - sometimes you have have to perform BOTH operations (both the Add/Remove AND the command line removal)

Here is another way of removing

1) Click Start, click Run, type gpedit.msc, and then press ENTER
2) Double-click the following items to expand them:

Local Computer Policy
Computer Configuration
Administrative Templates
Windows Components
Windows Messenger
3) Double-click on the option "Do not allow Windows Messenger to run", and then click Enabled.
4) Click OK, and then close the window

sorry it only stops messenger for running

to remove messenger you have to open the sysoc.inf
in the windows\inf directory

msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,hide,7
remove the word hide

then remove it from Add/Remove Windows Components
it is about 14.3 mb

this will remove messenger
then you can install messenger that you want

Good Luck
