I am running NT 4.0 SP5. Due to security concerns I need to rename administrator account. Does anyone know how to do this?

Your can approach this in two ways. You can disable the account and create another with Domain Admin privileges or (This is from memory of User Manager) Open User Manager, select Administrator, from the main dropdown menu there will be a selection to renmae the user.

The built-in administrator account cannot be permenantly disabled or locked out. It can be renamed in User Manager (for Domains if Server) by highlighting the account and , under the User pull down, select "Rename"

Admin account cannot be disabled. Your options are to make a really long password that cannot be guessed any time next century and/or copy/rename existing Admin account.

This is done through user mangler (User Manager) Select Administrator user and through menu optins select Rename or Copy option. Change the name as you want. You may also try setting the Primary group of administrator to Domain User (been meaning to try that someone told me you could do that but i never remember wheni am in front of the servers.)

What I do is in user manager for domain, highlight and copy the administrator account to create a back administrator, I then rename the orginal account.

After that create an ordinary user account, name it Administrator and give it access to nothing. Fake account for hackers.

This gives you to admin accounts.

An administrator account can be locked out if the log on attemps exceed your the setting for the account policy.

You now have 2 admin accounts should that happen.

How about user manager (for domains)?
Make sure you have no services running on this account or you have to change them too
