replication errors

By dennisbv ·
I believe a record was deleted by mistake from our DNS servers and I am now recieving the following error.

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: NTDS KCC
Event Category: Knowledge Consistency Checker
Event I 1265
Date: 1/29/2004
Time: 8:56:11 AM
User: N/A
Computer: MEE-PDC
Description:
The attempt to establish a replication link with parameters

Partition: CN=Schema,CN=Configuration,DC=meelift,DC=com
Source DSA DN: CN=NTDS Settings,CN=PINKY,CN=Servers,CN=Default-First-Site-Name,CN=Sites,CN=Configuration,DC=meelift,DC=com
Source DSA Address: afa9cb0c-9f31-4647-b0da-695fdcd2757e._msdcs.meelift.com
Inter-site Transport (if any):

failed with the following status:

The DSA operation is unable to proceed because of a DNS lookup failure.

The record data is the status code. This operation will be retried.
Data:
0000: 4c 21 00 00 L!..
Can I correct this by creating a sitelink? This was a Domain in the same forest.

"The DSA operation is unable to proceed because of a DNS lookup failure." See Q319202, this issue occurs because the DNS Database does not have a service (SRV) resource record for the domain controller.

Hope this helps.

Creating the same site again may help, but unknown if their is some unique identifier issue you may run into. It would be best to manually create the object in the ADSIedit program and let replication happen befor manully deleting it in ADSIedit.

From Technet article 249256 I found this:

"The DSA Operation Is Unable to Proceed Because of a DNS Lookup Failure" Error
To troubleshoot this error:
Use the Nltest /dsgetdc: /pdc /force /avoidself command to determine if the correct PDC is returned.
If there a connection object and not a replication link reported by the REPLMON or REPADMIN commands, the problem might be related to the KCC.
Run the following commands on the PDC, and then submit the output to Microsoft PSS for more troubleshooting:
nltest /DBFLAG:0x2000FFFF

-and-

nltest /DSGETDC: /GC

Run the nltest /dsgetdc: /gc /force command to determine if you can contact a global catalog server (GC).
Check the "password last changed" parameter on both the PDC and the server(s) with which you experience the problem.
