Reset Win XP Home for 1st time boot

By gmichaels ·
What is the best way to reset Windows XP home edition so the PC acts like its the first time boot and will take you through the original set up? Do you need to run System Restore, delete all users first, restore from system disk, or just tweek some system setting?

Reinstall the Operating system. This deletes all user files, but "freshens up" windows. If you have a retail copy boot off the cd and walk thru the setup. If you have an oem version, you may have to contact your vendor for specific instructions.

You might try the sysprep.exe tool it will give you a mini setup wizard after reboot, that is if you are not wanting to do a complete reinstall. If you are wanting to just reinstal xp over itself then once you are up and running with your new configutation create a restore point so you can do this much easier in the future.
