Restoring Outlook Express address book from DBX files.

By iamsodigital ·
I'm an old school Hotmail/OE user, but not a paying member, and I'm finally giving MS the boot as a whole for e-mail.

When my desktop's board fried in the summer, I got my Inspiron lappy. I copied files from my old hard drive, including OE's store of DBX files.

However, it's not quite as easy to restore your address book from the DBX files, as you typically have to "backup" the WAB address book file in OE to be able to restore it.

I've been told there is a tool that will allow address book restoration via the DBX files. Has anyone heard of one?

Wasn't aware that your contacts were stored in your dbx files...

Anyways,

Why don't you just create a dummy profile account then you can either go file import, and import your email and then export your address book.

Or if the import doesn't work then go to maintenece then store folder and find your outlook express folder location and throw the files in there.

Make sure to do this from within outlook noteing the store folder path properly. (I just cut and paste)

Outlook stores your files under the SID name not the user account name.

I think you can try this way!

I think you can try a utility called Advanced Outlook Express Repair to repair your Outlook Express dbx file. It works rather well for my corrupt Outlook Express dbx files. Its web address is http://www.datanumen.com/aoer/
