Rolling out software upgrades

By donalconlon ·
Hello,
I need to upgrade to service pack 6 and IE5 on 200 nt pc's on our network. Without having to go around to each pc to install them can anyone tell me a way of automatically installing these products over the network. The network is an nt 4.0 one using workstation as the clients. I do not have access to the nt resource kit.
Thank you.

I suppose you also have no SMS and other "heavy" tools? which would be useful...

I hardly believe you have to get access to ResKit managing 200PC network, not only for this particular issue. Some are available for download from MS, there are someother sites but I'm not sure about legal issues.

Without that you may try to include running those SETUPs into logon scripts. (users logging on must have enough rights on their local machines -- I believe PowerUsers at least)

Or, if you do not use the scripts, you may run these remotely by AT command (you have to run Schedule service on behalf on accounts having enough rights).

HTH,
Dima

It is good that you only have 200 PCs. We use SMS 2.0 here. It is bumpy at the begining but when you get a hold of it you can install SP6a on all your machines in less than 10 hours. By the way you, need SP6a with the 2 hot fixes.
