Router and Firewall with Linux and FreeB

By Vuitanh ·
I have DSL with 5 ips addresses. I would like to ultilize these IP addresses and as the same time create a secure home network. I heard great deal about creating a router in Linux or FreeBSD. I would like to have a Linux/FreeBSD box run as Firewall, Router. Which I assume the computer will have 3 NIC. One is Internal, External, and DMZ. I woiuld use one ips for masquerading to internal computer, and the other for mail, web or other servers. Since I have 5 ips addresses, what is best to do thisand how does it work with Linux or FreeBSD. Any layout with equipment and network design to make this work.
My plan is to have a dedicate computer(pentium 133) just to do routing and firewall, and another servers with mail and webserver.

Router and Firewall with Linux and FreeB

I have a similar setup with cable modem rather than DSL, but I used the Linux Router Project software and then tweaked it from there with SSHD and Seattle Firewall so I have inbound and outbound VPN capability as well.

The hardware that I'm usingis a motherboard/CPU (P133 will work fine), 20meg of RAM, three NE2000 NIC cards and a floppy drive.

There are a couple of ways you can use your IP addresses. You can masquerade one IP for your internal network and then pass the others to your DMZ (one for each server).
If you write to me off the list, I can give you a URL where I have a diagram posted and supply any additional details you may want.
Also, the Linux Router site is an excellent place to get started.
