RPC Error Windows XP x64

By jeffrey.hale02 ·
I can't connect to my home network on my x64 machine because I get a RPC error when I try to install "Client for Microsoft Network".. I'm baffled for I've researched for days and it seems I'm the only one with this problem. Please HELP!!

I had a similar problem with my Win XP 64 bit edition until I went to a lot of trouble trying different Win XP 64 bit default drivers for the Network Card, once I got it to work properly as 10/100 mbs NIC I got onto the Internet and found new 64 bit drivers for the network card and installed that, then the NIC worked as the 10/100/1000 that it's supposed to work at.

I had this same problem with a fwe of the 'default' drivers on the Win XP 64 bit disc.

Eventually I got fed up and now run SimplyMEPIS Linux instead of WinDozey

Same problem here

I have exactly the same problem with 2 of three machines I installed xp64 on. The third on is fine. Sure enuf the rpc locator service is completely missing from the 2 computers that refuse to install ms client and won't browse the network. I think it may relate to a single file which failed to copy during the initial install.

same problem - just started this week

by techrepublic.aj In reply to RPC Error Windows XP x64

the only clue i have is that this past week i permitted a series of windows updates. looks like i'll have to roll back a few, starting with the nic driver. couldnt come at a worse time.. did you ever find the culprit jeff?
More info; the service state appears good:
SERVICE_NAME: RpcLocator
DISPLAY_NAME: Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locator
STATE : 4 RUNNING
