Running .dat file

By guzmangi ·
I am trying to run a .dat file (which is an MPEG movie file) from a cd rom in windows media player. For some reason it is not working even though I did it on my friends computer.

You need VMPEG to run those files unless you have a DVD. You can download VMPEG files from:
ftp.netcom.com:/pub/cf/cfogg/vmpeg/

If you have trouble getting hold of it, email me.

To add to the last answer, you might want to try updating windows media player to the latest version, you can do this by opening media player and from the menu select upgrade.

for running .dat file you need mediaplayer 6.0 or above. install that which is available with ie 5.0 and go to media player menu - view >options menu and from formats tab select .dat from the supported file formats . now you can run any .dat movies.
media player 7.0 beta is also avlbl at MS web site

good luck
