Running out(low) of system resources

By jrbjr ·
I have 256MB of NonECC PC133 SDRAM
OS=WinMe

System Resources at start up are only around 21%free.

I continually have problems running out of system resources and my system hangs or freezes several times a day.

I have eliminated most of thenonessential things from my Systray and only run at most two or three application windows open at the time... this problem occurs no matter what programs I run.

System Resources can be improved by reducing the number of startup programs
Check the startup programs that you have loading also the programs running in background, suchas anti-virus,screensavers,etc.

Real easy fix.

click start - run
type - msconfig
click startup

uncheck everything except
scanreg
taskmon
systray
power profile
state manager
scheduling agent

check the startup section of your start menu and delete everything!

reboot check your resources, also download the MDAC update from microsoft, you will have to look under updates for win98 to find it.

Nothing else is required to do.

Hi,
the last answer is on the right track except .....click start - run
type - msconfig
click startup tab

uncheck everything except,

scanreg
taskmon
systray

and dont forget on the first page of MSCONFIG to make sure the correct box is checked (I forget the wording) that will start the config you set. If not it will revert to loading evrything in sight.
You only need scheduling agent if you schedule maintainance or virus scan/update at particular times automatically. For now try to do without that. Also make sure you have enough hard disk space for virtual memory to work! and this space should be on C:, resources include virtual mem not just ram. Does post actually see 256 mb of memory? Get all updates for ME from the MSweb site also.
