runonce

By rghigby ·
I have one user on an XP system that cannot run IE6 (or IE7 now after trying to fix the problem by upgrading) because IE hangs with a runonce2.aspx connection. Other users are fine. Searching the reg file for the user did not identify a runonce hotkey. Starting IE w/o add-ins works fine.

Any ideas?

Remove add-ins..............

by ThumbsUp2 In reply to runonce

Remove or disable all add-ins in IE, reboot and start putting them back in one at a time as you encounter a need for them. You'll probably find there are several that you don't use/need anyway. One of them is probably corrupt and the only way to find which one is doing it is to add them back one at a time. You might consider, while you have the add-ins torn out, upgrading to IE7 at that time and THEN start adding things back. Don't forget to do the MS patches as well before you start adding.

IE7 Hangs on the first tab

by rghigby In reply to Remove add-ins........... ...

Okay, the runonce error is taken care of and gone. Now IE7 hangs up when it first loads but while it is hung on the first tab is pretty snappy on the second (or several others) all while the first tab keeps looking for a site.

Change the home page........

by ThumbsUp2 In reply to IE7 Hangs on the first ta ...

In internet options (right click the big blue E on the desktop and choose "properties" or go to the control panel/internet options), set the home page to another site and see if the first tab starts better afterwards. It may be trying to load a site that is slow. Are the 2nd, 3rd, etc... tabs opening up "blank" ?

2nd Tab same as first

by rghigby In reply to Change the home page..... ...

That's the strange part, the second tab is the same as what is being called in the first. I can change the default home page but always the same result, long open on the first tab, fast on the second.

Adobe's Flash Player

by rghigby In reply to 2nd Tab same as first

Here's another funny spot about IE7 with this installation...can't play Youtube videos. Have checked "Tools" and enabled just about everything at this point. Uninstalled and re-installed Flash Player
