Same Desktop All Users

By hollrm ·
I installed W2k and set up secretary as administrator and installed programs - works fine. Now I want to change her username to Nancy - and set up others with their names to use the same machine. I want them to see the same desktop of already installed programs for administrator. Problem is when I copy the desktop directory from administrator the programs (Corel WP2000) don't work. How can I make it the same for all users?

You probably did already half of what is needed. Desktop apps, like MS Office for sure and Corel probably also, register per-user data also in the registry. So from the Corel documentation, find out what that is.

However more in general, it should be able to install the app in the 'All users' part of the menu and when a new user starts working on the machine, prompt for the user specific details. If WP2000 does not (yet) supply a Windows Installer MSI file, then again only the Corel documentation can tell you how to do this. Probably easier than with MS Office (like many things in WP are easier), but still...
If it _does_ supply this file, define the whole desktop in the W2K Group Policies and include the WP2000 app.

Hope this helps,

I got this from Brainbuzz.com

You'll need to configure yours or a sample account exactly as you'd like it, IE settings (e.g., homepage), open windows settings (e.g., view mode), Regional Settings, Office Apps file save locations, wallpaper, etc.,etc.

Once you're done with that log in as the administrator and copy the ntuser.dat from the template user profile you setup to the "Default User" folder and walla, all of your users have the same settings by default.

The easiest way to solve this problem:
1) Install everything as administrator and configure the computer to your desired look.
2) Right click My Computer and choose Properties. Select the User Profiles Tab.
3) Select the Administrator Profile and choose the Copy To button. Copy the profile to "C:\Documents and Settings\Default User"
4) In the Permitted to Use box either choose the Everyone group or a particular NT group.

Now when a user logs onto the Win2K machine, it will build theuser profile from the Default User, which is a copy of the Admin profile, which has all the programs configured for.

Used this method to roll out 400 Win2K Pro laptops to a national sales force. All with the same configuration.
