Anyone from the academe?

Here's the situation: A university main campus with seven satellite campuses...planning to put up a WAN for its ICT development project...Does anyone have a n existing design which I could use for reference...(e.g. transmission media, topology, equipment specification)...I would also like to consult from you network gurus from time to time...

Hope to hear from you guys the sooner

Thank you very much

There is no "universal solution" - every case is different. Even if you will find another university with satellite offices, you will have another variables - budgeting, distances, speed and bandwidth requirements, existing infrastructure, vendor preference, compatibility with existing equipment and applications... Thousands different factors. My advice - if you have sufficient financing, hire a consultant, who does it daily. If you want to do it internally - look for "general concepts" in the campus design (for example, at Cisco's website). At least it will give you the foundation, where to start. Then, after you develop the "vision", go to details - equipment requirements, specifications, placement. Then evaluate specific equipment from the different vendors, how well it fits to your requirements and into your budget. And so on...

If you have specific questions, contact me through e-mail.

Good luck,
