SATA DVD-RW installing as IDE

By theusmale2 ·
I have a ECS P965T-A MoBo South Bridge with a 82801HB/HR (ICH8/R) LPC Interface Controller. My Sata hd installs correctly but my PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-212D ATA Device installs as IDE. but its has a red Sata cable. doesn't use the grey IDE cable. Is'nt this a SATA Device? I understand it should be installing as SATA not IDE? What have I forgotten? As Spock would say "This is most illogical!" Help.

ATA means PATA (parallel ATA), also known as IDE.

what do you see in bios setup?

Does it work?

SATA DVD-RW installing as IDE pt3

This was my question: It has a RED SATA cable. doesn't use the grey IDE cable. Is'nt this a SATA Device? The name I used is taken from device manager/dvd-cd-rom drives listings.

Yes it is a SATA Device

If it has a Slim Data Cable with 7 Connectors. This lead can be Red, Orange, Grey or any other color depending on who made the Data Lead.

If it uses a 2 Row 4 Pin Connector it is a IDE Lead. The Data Lead here can be Grey, Blue, Orange or any other color depending on who makes the Data Lead. IDE Leads can have either 40 or 80 wires in them also depending if they are low or High Speed Leads.

I'm not really sure I understand your question here

But if this is your Optical Drive

Yes this is a SATA Drive but that's about as far as I can understand what you are asking about here.

Although if you are referring to how BIOS shows this drive it may be perfectly OK to have it listed under something like IDE Primary Master/Slave by the BIOS. This is because some M'Boards BIOS wants to add SATA Optical Drives to the IDE Chanel's to allow you to boot off it.

The A Bit AW8 MAX and similar M'Boards list any SATA Optical Drives as on either the Primary or Secondary IDE Chanel's and depending on which SATA Connector that are connected they can be either Master or Slave Drives. This is the way that, that BIOS works as it's not fully SATA Compatible it's just been tweaked to be able to Boot off a SATA Optical Drive. This is something common with many Intel 965 Chip Sets. As I have not looked at every Makers M'Board with a 965 Chip Set it may be Universal to that Chip Set but it may not as I'm not 100% sure so I'll just say several or many Intel 965 Chip Sets work this way.

If you see something like Primary Secondary and a third IDE Chanel this is the Bois's way of working and there is nothing wrong here. Though if you want to boot off this drive you need to set the Boot Order in BIOS to Boot from the CD/DVD Drive before the HDD.
