Saving messages in Outlook 98 with " Sav

By Zahid ·
Hi there,
I have recently upgraded all of the users in office from Outlook 97 to Outlook 98.
We used to save certain messages in out filling system with "Save as" opion but after we moved to Outlook 98 could not save some messages with save as option with an error message that system is low on memmory and close some programs to complete the operation. This error message appeared on all PC while saving some messages.
As you may know that Outlook uses the subject of the message as file name when we savea message with "Save as" option. This message appears with long subject messages apparently longer than 13 characters.
Have anybody experienced such a problem.

Thanks
Zahid

I don't know what OS you are using, but have experienced similar problems with saving files in NT. Not only in Outlook, but other MS apps as well. You can try going in to System in the Ctrl Panel and under the Environment tab, up the paging file size.This has resolved the low memory file issue for a number of our users. Another thing to look at is the format you are saving the messages in. If they are being saved as .docs, you may want to try to install the Service Release 2 ver. of Office 97, which has also resolved the memory problem.

Answer 1 is good for NT, but if your using 95, 98 you may want to consider this if your machines have 32 MB Ram or more.

Right click on "My Computer", down to properties, click on the "Performance Tab", click "Virtual Memory" and specify the virtual memory to use rather than letting Windows do it. Use a minimum equal to your Ram and a Max of Double that ofyour ram.

Of course installing service packs can improve buggy performance as well.

You may also want to edit the system.ini file toinclude [VCACHE] entries of

minFileCache=0
maxFileCache=4096

for NT machine try to install the service pak 4.0 which will upgrade your IE 4.0 brouser also.

If you are using the win98 than try to increase the mematleast 32 MB or check what other programms are running at background.
If you increase the virtual memory more than the default than it will slow down your box speed.

i hope it will help you.

thanks
