Saving the Password

By luciano991 ·
After cleaning a computer of the so-called matrix virus and reinstalling Windows98 Dial up networking allows the option of selecting the box for remembering the password but doesn't remember it requiring re-entry for each dialup. I knew how to fix this in Windows 95 but not in Windows 98. Thanks.

Go to Control Panel and open Passwords. Be sure bullet is on "All users of this PC use the same preferences and desktop settings."

Then right-click on Network Neighborhood and select properties. Be sure Client for Microsoft Networks is installed and that Windows Logon is the primary network logon (on the same window). Once you reboot, you may have to enter a password at the first Windows logon and the first time you connect to dial-up, but you should be able to save it.

Sorry, you are still offered the opportunity to save the password and I checked the box, but it makes you do it the next time as well.

It may also be possible that your password file(s) are corrupt. To repair this just search for and delete any files that have a .pwl extension.

Searched for *.pwl files and found none. thanks anyway. Shouldn't I have found at least one? Maybe it's a hidden file. I'll check.
