SBS 2011 Self signed Certificate for RWA

By Olyprinter ·
I just setup an SBS 2011 Essentials for a client and want to allow them remote access using RWA using a self signed certificate. The problem is that the Self Signed certificate doesn't have a subject alternative name. When you use IE to go to the RWA, the DNS name doesn't match what is on the certificate, because the self signed certificate has the server.site.local name as the DNS. You cannot connect to the server and workstations unless they match. In SBS 2008 I was able to get around this and produce a self signed certificate with subject alternative names that matched the DNS name in the address in IE. Of course I could modify the host file on each workstation to have the .local address point to the public IP and put that in the address of the browser, but that is a pain. I need to be able to produce a self signed certificate that matches the public DNS.
