Schedule Task in Windows XP

In XP professional I am trying to set up a scheduled task and point it at a batch file that I want to run on a nightly basis. Even though I have set myself up with administrator rights it returns a message that I don't have rights to schedule a job. I used to do this with no problems with Win95 - Win2000.

Lost my admin rights too!

Hey dcree -- did you ever resolve this issue? I've had a similar problem...when trying to install software, it tells me I can't because I don't have admin rights, but I DO... This started up a couple of weeks ago after I did some MS Updates...have you found a fix? Thanks!

Try using an account with a password

From my experience, Windows will not run a scheduled task unless you supply an account that has a password. In the past it would silently fail without any warning. It seems that they changed something, because now when you try to schedule a task with an account that doesn't have a password, then there is at least a warning that it will fail. It would be much more helpful if they mentioned that you need a password, instead of saying, "You don't have permission...", even though you know you do.

It is best to use the same account that is logged in, and make sure that account has a password. If you try creating another account with a password, then the task will run, but it will run in the background & you won't see it.

The other option you have, which is much easier, is to just make sure that you check the box "Run only if logged on". With this checked, you'll need to be logged on, BUT you will NOT need to specify a password.
