Secondary DNS servers working?

By courtney ·
I have two networks conected by a VPN. Both are 2 seperate Win2K Forest domains. I can ping addresses fine. I then setup secondary DNS servers for each other and that is working fine. Both servers have each others DNS records, but it still does not allow users on either domain to resolve each others host name.

I can ping the servers but not use their hostnames. Each DNS server has a secondary of the other. Shouldnt this already work?

You say you cannot use their hostnames, so why don't you try checking the hosts configuration, and it's relted files.

1. To verify whether the other site of DNS can be seen by local dns server, please use nslookup.exe to resolve.

2. Maybe u can enable the DNS Forwarder on both DNS server, with both pointing each other.

Hope this able to help u.

because they are in different domains you need to use the FQDN to ping by name.

You will not be able to ping by just typing:

ping server1

You need to type

ping server1.domainname
