Security account manager on NT4 Server

By manleyt ·
How can I extract the user account names and information from the SAM on a BDC or PDC into an Excel spreadsheet (or an Access database). I would like to sort the accounts based on the description names in a speadsheet. I am responsible for severalhundred user accounts on a domain with a couple thousand users. With the accounts listed in a spreadsheet I will be able to sort mine out.

If you are running exchange - you can actually export the list of accounts from NT as a third option (sorry I don't remeber exactly where - but it an easy method)Pull up help - that is how I found it before.

I have a brief VB program that will create a semicolon delimited file that can be imported to Excel or Access. If you want to use it email me and I can send a copy. I wrote it for myself, it is nothing fancy but it does the job.

addusers.exe (resoure kit) can be run to dump the user accounts with groups. This can easily be loaded into excel. You can then use this to run a batch file to collect more informatin on the accounts using net user.

Pedastal Software has an NT command line utility package called NTSEC. Included in this package is a utility called ntuser. This command line utility will pull the NT account names from the Domain of your choosing by exploiting a Null User session. The output can be directed to a text file, comma delimited.

I'm sure you will find the other NTSEC tools to be extremely valuable as well.
