send 2 a server connected through lan

By jahangeer_m ·
I have written a small server program which runs on a pc connected through a lan with windows 98 internet connection sharing. How can I send tcp/udp messages to it from internet. Suppose I know remote pc's private and main server's (ISP provided & private) ip address.
I am using VB. But a general help will be very thankfull.

Thanks
Jahangeer Mirza,

send 2 a server connected through lan

by bill In reply to send 2 a server connecte ...

When you say you've "written a small server program", do you mean this is an application that runs 'on' the server? Or that it's an application that acts as say an 'event' server and is running on a workstation on the LAN.

Second, what Network OS are you running? Novell? NT? Windows2000? Linux?

Last, can the device you want to send msg's to be successfully 'pinged' from the remote location you're at? and if you're getting a ping reply, are you sure it's from the device in question?

If you can answer these questions for me, I might be able to help you sort through this.
I do a lot of 'remote connection' type work using the Internet and VPN's as well as 'dial-up'.
