Server 2008 r2 with multiple roles

    Locked

    by bill9 ·

I am planning to set up a single server MS 2008 r2 standard for a home loan system which incorporates the home loan software and a database for storing & processing of the applications. So is it possible to assign the server roles like file services, print services, dns, dhcp, AD, Application services and then install sql server 2xxx on the same server for the database.

it is most probably possible but I wouldnt do it.
Stuffing to much on the one server is never a good idea.

Try and space it out using VM, with all you named there, 2 VM’s is the minimum i would use.

And what you named there, we have pretty much 3 Vm’s running for that.

That sounds as a good idea also. The server will cover for 6 client workstations by the way but the workload of processing applications is big.

        thanks for the tip

If you want all those roles on one server, why not use Small Business Server?

I had hope to use SBS but the main application (Home Loan Software) might shift all this because its the biggest reason why we are building this first server and the fate rest with the ideal software that we will find.
