Server Build - parity error

By dcoyle ·
I am currently loading Win2K server on a HP E800 NetServer. It has dual PIII 866 chips, on-board ATI rage video and a NIC, 1096 (1 gig) RAM, 4 harddrives (all 18.1 gig: one HP and 3 Seagates), on board LSI/Symbios SCSI controller.
Problem is I get through most of the build...w2k loads etc, and does it's last re-boot...and comes up with this error:
"Hardware malfunction
Call your H/W vendor for support
NMI: Parity check / Memory parity error
*** The system has halted ***"

Now, the memory seems to test fine. I did a full diagnostic test (which HP have on their website for this unit). I tested various chips and get same error. They are in the correct slots on the motherboard, also. This is Kingston memory which HP specify for thisunit. So I doubt it is actually the memory. Also, used a boot disk, with the updated BIOS (from HP website), and get same error, once w2K is loading. So I presume it is not a Bios issue.
I am hoping someone has had the same problem before and can enlighten me? Like I say, I doubt it is either the memory or Bios. Could it be another type of hardware that is failing. Am open to suggestions. A detailed proceedure would be great? Points will be awarded.
Thx.

According to Technet article Q222973 you should also pull any "extra" cards you have. If you have extra memory, I probably wouldn't hurt to swap it out to be sure. It could be one of your on board devices, which would then require a new MB. I would say that HP should be helping you troubleshoot this. Generally the Hardware vendor has "special" troubleshooting progs to help you out. Anyway, I would go to technet and check out Q222973.
