Question

Locked

server

By nicholas7 ·
my church has a sever using microsoft 2003. I would like to grant some users access to the sever without adding them to the domain. Is it possible to give to access to certain folders on the sever without changing the domain. Thanks in advance.

Not really sure what you mean...

You must have a user account (either domain or local) to access the folders, if the server is the domain controller it must be a domain account. If it is a member server then you could create a local account that will have access.

Access...

You can grant non-Domain accounts access to shares. This is, however, not good practice.

If this server is a domain controller I would seriously reconsider granting access to non-Domain accounts.

That being said, you would need to create local accounts on that server and then add them to the shares.

Is there a reason you can't create a domain accounts these people and then put them in a domain group to make managing them easier?

Their machines does not need to be joined to the domain if we're just talking about folder shares; when prompted for their login and password, the should be able to just enter: DOMAIN\username
