Set time during User logon in WINNT4

By s.salamonson ·
Does any one know of a solution to using NET TIME in a logon script to set the time of a Workstation to the File server under NT4

I am looking for a work around as Microsoft TechNet have no answer

The problem is that the User does not have permission to modify the system time on his workstation. and when NET TIME is run from the logon script on logon by the user gives a "A required priveledge is not held by the client" error message

So some method doing this would be appreciated

Set time during User logon in WINNT4

Hi!

There is no easy workaround for this, you either need to give each user right to change system time or you'll need to install and use a clock/time daemon that comes with the NT4 Resource Kit.

Check resource kit info and manuals for installation and such.

Regarding the previledge problem there is a workaround. On any workstation You can go to administrative tools and run user manager. In the user manager go to groups and click porperties of administrators group. In this menu select add. In this you add domain users or any domain users name you want. In the first case any user login in on to the workstation will administrative rights for his local machine including changing system time. In the second case you can have only the particular user using that particular machine have full administrative rights for that particular local machine. Now your script will be able to change time as the local user has previleges to do the same.

Because we do not want to expose the User to the environmet/Os or other setting that that privilege will give.

We have user that love to tinker and support calls increase exponentially with such access

Thanks
