When you have multiple users on a pc and the screensaver kicks in (locks up system), will shutting down the pc at the power button corrupt any system files?

If you keep shutting down the system by using the power button, over time files can become corrupt. If you are having problems with the screenscaver then the easiest fix would just be to disable that screensaver.

Yes, it will cause files to become fragmented and corrupt after repeated improper shutdowns, the drive will eventually get bad sectors that could cause a problem, this is one reason you have scan disk to scan the drive for errors after a improper shutdown to check the drive for corrupt or bad sectors on the drive
